Ford Maryland Flag

For The 9th Time in 12 Years, Ford F-150 Named ‘Truck of Texas.’

The Detroit News reported that Ford’s new aluminum-body F-150 pickup on Monday was named “Truck of Texas” by the Texas Auto Writers Association.

Not bad, eh? It gets better:

The Dearborn automaker took home the top honors at the TAWA Texas Truck Rodeo, and also earned five other awards, including “Truck Line of Texas” and “Commercial Vehicle of Texas” for its 2015 Transit van. Chrysler Group LLC received nine awards, including “SUV of Texas” for the 2015 Grand Cherokee, while General Motors Co. received three awards.

“TAWA members are among the first to experience the all-new F-150’s breakthrough innovations and best-in-class capabilities, features that will help our hardworking customers improve their productivity,” Joe Hinrichs, Ford president of the Americas said in a statement. “It is an honor to again be named Truck of Texas. We are committed to continuously improving America’s favorite trucks.”

So what’s next for the F-150?  Is Maryland Next???

Howard County Community College Classic Grand Prix

Last Saturday, September 20th, Apple Ford of Columbia had the privilege of co-sponsoring the 27th Annual Howard County Community College Classic Grand Prix at the Marama Farm in Clarksville. The proceeds from this event go to the HCC Educational Foundation, which provides funding and assistance for students attending Howard Community College.

The event featured a world class equestrian competition, terrific food from local vendors, a car show held by the Mustang Club of Maryland, and a carnival area for younger spectators.

The first Columbia Grand Prix was held in 1987, and since then, it has raised more than $3 million for the Howard Community College Education Foundation.  We at Apple Ford of Columbia appreciate the opportunity to help our community’s students and want to thank everyone involved, especially our fellow co-sponsors for making this event such a huge a success.

Now that we’ve seen horses fly, we are excited to see students soar.

Another Great Review

I have to say, I am very happy with the way that Apple Ford stepped up to make things right with some issues I had with my 2010 Ford Explorer I purchased a year ago, especially the internet sales manager James Koser.

James handled the situation and made sure things were taken care of, so much that I ended up trading in my Explorer and purchasing a new Ford Flex Limited.

Everyone made the experience run smoothly, got a good deal and out the door in no time, definitely coming back when it’s time to purchase another vehicle!

Howard Community College Grand Prix

You’ll Never Guess Whose Winning the HCC/Apple Ford Grand Prix Raffle Straw Poll

When word hit the street that Apple Ford Lincoln of Columbia was sponsoring the HCC’s Grand Prix Grand Raffle again this year, folks were genuinely excited.  For years now, Apple Ford has been a committed supporter of the HCC’s Educational Foundation, and this year, the good folks at 8800 Standford Blvd are raffling off a FREE Car.

Well, not just any free car…the Grand Raffle Prize winner’s choice between a new Explorer XLT, a Lincoln MKZ, or a 2015 Mustang GT.  Yes, that’s right.  A 2015 Mustang GT.

So we asked the question:  If you won the Grand Prize, which of the three models would you choose?Screenshot 2014-07-23 12.01.28

So far, folks are choosing the 2015 Ford Mustang GT by a slim margin over the new Explorer XLT, but there is still plenty of time to cast your vote. (see below or click here)

Remember, The Howard Community College Columbia Classic Grand Prix is on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at Marama Farm in Clarksville, Maryland.  Proceeds benefit the HCC’s Educational Foundation, which provides scholarship opportunities to deserving students.

For a limited time, you can have your shot at the Grand Prix Raffle.  Tickets are only $50 each or 3 for $125.  As an added bonus, HCC and Apple Ford are limiting raffle sales to 1,800 tickets sold, so your odds of winning a new car are far better here than anything you’ll see elsewhere.

And for business owners interested in getting in on the action, excellent sponsorship opportunities exist.  The Grand Prix is a great way to get your name out and support a wonderful institution:  Click here for details.

Road Trip Apple Ford

More Tales From the Road

The other day, we shared reports from AAA and that found national gas prices have fallen steadily since the Fourth of July. News of decreasing gas prices is always good, especially on a holiday weekend like Labor Day.

That article was pretty good…so we thought you might enjoy a few more interesting tidbits related to America’s love of the almighty road trip, courtesy of the good folks at From the article:

  • [Americans] love that open road: More than 92 percent would be willing to drive up to 500 miles for a vacation; of this group, 49 percent would drive cross-country.
  • Thirty-four percent of road trippers will take anywhere from 1-10 selfies on their journey (not while driving).
  • GPS is key: GPS, music and travel companions are must-haves for road trips (27 percent, 24 percent and 25 percent, respectively).
  • Parents WILL turn that car around: Of the respondents with children, nearly half (45 percent) will threaten to turn the car around at least once on a road trip.
  • Eyes on the road: Nearly 90 percent of respondents said they could last over an hour without checking their phones while on a road trip. Of course, no one should ever check their phones while driving.
  • Classic rock trumps pop: When respondents were given the choice of road trip anthems, Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Sweet Home Alabama” beat out modern day heavy hitters Katy Perry and Taylor Swift for the top spot.

It’s good to know we are not the only ones leaving the Katy Perry cassette tapes at home when we hop in the Mustang for the occasional weekend get away.
